Pixel Not Ringing? Missed Calls Bug and Fixes
If your Pixel stays silent when someone calls and only shows a missed-call notification later, you may be hitting a recurring incoming-call bug. Google shipped an initial fix in a beta update, but reports continued, including on some Pixel 11 phones. Check Do Not Disturb and smartwatch call muting first, then try the unofficial workarounds below.

Symptoms and affected models
The pattern is consistent across reports. A call comes in, but the incoming call screen never appears and the phone does not ring. A few minutes later you see a missed-call notification, and the caller often went to voicemail. Android Headlines reported on October 27, 2026 that the problem has now reached the Pixel 11 series, citing a Pixel 11 Pro XL owner on Reddit who says roughly 4 out of every 10 calls never show up. Android Authority covered the same Pixel 11 Pro XL reports.
This is not new to the Pixel 11. Owners of older models started reporting it in June 2026. Based on AndroidPure's summary of Google's public bug report and owner reports collected by BGR, reports have mentioned owners of several Pixel generations, including:
- Pixel 6, Pixel 6a and Pixel 7
- Pixel 8
- Pixel 9, Pixel 9a, Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL
- Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL
- Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro XL
These models come from user reports and press coverage, not from an official Google list, so other Pixels may be affected and some listed owners may have had a different problem. US carriers named in the reports include AT&T, FirstNet, Spectrum, Google Fi and US Mobile, so this does not look like a single-carrier problem.
The latest stable software is the October 2026 update, which 9to5Google lists as Android 17 build CD1A.261005.003 for the Pixel 11 series and CP3A.261005.005 for the Pixel 8 through Pixel 10a. Its changelog has no fix for missed incoming calls.
Quick check: if the incoming call screen does appear but you hear nothing, this is probably a different issue, such as ringtone volume, silent mode or vibration settings. The bug covered here is the case where the call never shows on screen at all and you only get the missed-call notification afterwards.
Why it happens
Google has not published the cause. Based on the bug tracker as reported by AndroidPure, a Google staff member acknowledged the issue on June 24. On July 2 Google said it had found the root cause and that a fix was in beta build CP31.260618.005 and later. On August 27 Google reopened the report, writing that "some users are still experiencing missed call behavior" even after that initial fix. As of October 28 the tracker showed no newer update and Google had given no timeline.
Google has asked affected users about Wi-Fi Calling, Call Screen and paired smartwatches, but has not named any of them as the cause.
Fixes
There is no official fix yet. The steps below go from harmless checks Google itself asked for to an unofficial workaround with mixed results. Menu paths are for the current Phone by Google app on Android 17.
1. Rule out Do Not Disturb and watch call muting
Google asked affected users to confirm both of these before anything else, because each can silence calls on purpose.
- Swipe down twice from the top of the screen to open Quick Settings.
- Make sure the Do Not Disturb tile is off.
- If you wear a smartwatch paired to the phone, open the watch's companion app on your Pixel and look for the setting Google named, "Mute phone call while wearing watch". Turn it off.
- Ask someone to call you a few times and see whether the call screen now appears every time.
2. Make sure you are on the latest update
- Open Settings > System > Software updates.
- Install any pending system update and Google Play system update, then restart when asked.
- Check your version in Settings > About phone > Build number. Pixel 11 owners should be on CD1A.261005.003 or newer.
The October update does not list a fix for this bug, but you will need to be current when the patch arrives.
3. Turn off Scam Detection and Call Screen (unofficial workaround)
Feature availability varies by country, carrier and Pixel model. Scam Detection and Call Screen are not available in every market, so you may not see these options in your Phone app settings. If they are missing, skip this step.
This is not an official Google recommendation, and there is no evidence that it addresses the underlying cause. One AT&T Pixel 10 Pro owner said disabling Scam Detection and Call Screen stopped the missed calls. The Pixel 11 Pro XL owner in Android Authority's report said it made no difference, so results are mixed. Turning these off also removes spam and scam protection on calls, so switch them back on if they do not help.
- Open the Phone app.
- Tap More (three dots) > Settings > Scam Detection, then turn off Scam Detection.
- Go back to Settings and tap Spam and Call Screen (on some versions just Call Screen) > Call Screen.
- On Pixel 7 and newer, under Protection level, turn off Automatically screen calls. On Pixel 6 and older, set Unknown call settings so callers are not screened.
- Restart the phone and test with several calls.
The menu paths come from Google's own help pages for Scam Detection and Call Screen.
4. Send Google a report with your details
Google said it needs specific information to finish the fix: your build number, your carrier, and whether you use Wi-Fi Calling, Call Screen or a paired watch.
- Note the time of each missed call.
- Open Settings > About phone > Send feedback about this device.
- Describe the problem and include your build number, carrier, and whether Wi-Fi Calling, Call Screen or a smartwatch is in use.
5. Factory reset: last resort only
{warning}A factory reset is not a confirmed fix for this issue. Try it only after contacting Google support and exhausting safer troubleshooting steps. A reset erases everything on the phone. If you try it anyway, back up first in Settings > System > Backup and confirm your photos, messages and 2FA apps are saved.
When to contact support
Contact support if calls keep disappearing after the checks above. In the US, start with Google through the Pixel Phone Help center, where you can reach Google by chat or phone. Also call your carrier: AT&T, Spectrum, Google Fi and US Mobile customers are among those reporting it, and the carrier can confirm the calls actually reached your line. In the UK and EU, use the Pixel Help contact options for your country.
FAQ
Why is my Pixel not ringing when someone calls?
If the call screen never appears and you only get a missed-call notification, you may be seeing the bug Google has been tracking since June 2026. If the call screen appears but there is no sound, check Do Not Disturb, ringtone volume and any paired watch first.
Did the October 2026 Pixel update fix missed calls?
No. The October 2026 changelog lists three fixes, and none covers incoming calls failing to appear. Google's only named fix so far was in beta build CP31.260618.005, and Google later reopened the issue.
Is the Pixel 11 affected by the missed calls bug?
Owners of the Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro XL have reported it, and Android Authority and Android Headlines covered those reports in late October 2026. Google has not confirmed a list of affected models. If you are still deciding between flagships, see our iPhone 18 Pro vs Pixel 11 Pro battery life comparison.
